Bhaktapur Home Visits

After a couple days of distributions of coupons and relief goods, today we finally had a day to just do home visits in our designated care district - Bhaktapur. I was looking very forward to today, because I really wanted to see all those cute little children's faces again. I've missed seeing their lovely faces over the last couple of days. So A and B group both left quite early this morning to do an all-day care program in each district. For the A group, we have three areas in the Bhaktapur district that we went to: IDP Camp, Libali Camp, and Maheswari Camp.

Many furniture were destroyed in the earthquake, so almost two months later, we can now see many furniture makers putting out all of their finished products for purchase.

Libali Camp - All the tents here were donated by the Chinese Government!

This very cute grandma can always be seen knitting sweaters, hats, and scarves for her family.

Maheswari Camp - this is the common area for all the people to gather around during the day. We had a special guest today, a Japanese hair dresser that came to do some free hair cuts for the residents. All the children were very frightened by the hair cuts since they are not use to the idea of getting their hair cut. They thought that the guy was going to hurt them with the scissors.

This is my favorite Aji (Grandmother) at the Maheswari Camp. Everyone says that when we smile we look alike. Whenever she sees me walking up, she's always yelling "Namaste, Natini (grand daughter)" She has one of the sweetest smiles and she is always wearing such colorful clothing.

The tents at the Maheswari Camp were donated by Tzu Chi Indonesia. They are Army Tents, so it is very large. In one tent, there are about 10 to 12 families, with 50 to 70 members total.

This is one of the favorite things a Napali child loves to do during free play time! They are so pro at it! It is incredible!

All the teen volunteers at the Maheswari camp made special heart shape messages for the Tzu Chi volunteers. It is so heart warming! Their hearts are filled with love and hope is blossoming in each and everyone of them. These cards are hung up in the library area of the camp.

We held a youth volunteer meeting for the coupon distribution that is going to happen tomorrow. I was in charge of informing them of their functions for tomorrow's coupon distribution and the actual relief goods distribution on Saturday.

The volunteers were very organized in obtaining the name list for the residents at the camp site. We went over it together and I will be typing it up into an excel sheet tonight, so that all the Tzu Chi volunteers will have an easier time finding the names during the coupon distribution.

After the meeting, we had time to share Tzu Chi stories and sign language performances. These youth volunteers are so thoughtful and motivated in being our volunteers. I am so grateful for their kindness and compassion for others.

These two cutie pies are the best little helpers ever!

It was so great to have spent the whole day seeing all of our youth volunteers at each site. It is totally thanks to their help with every distribution and medical free clinic, Tzu Chi is able to help more people in need at a faster rate. We need more youth volunteers, not just in Nepal, but all over the world to join in Tzu Chi's humanitarian efforts! I am so lucky that I grew up in the Tzu Chi big family! Super grateful! I will keep up the good work and do my best to inspire more people to do good deeds for the world! WE ARE ALL ONE FAMILY!
