After checking out the free clinic was all a go, Monica and I headed to Bungamati area to meet with their shelter coordinator to discuss mobilizing more volunteers for this Wednesday's distribution at Chu Che Pati Camp. We have learned that in Nepal, their idea of time is quite different than us. If a Nepalese says "I'll be there in 5 min!" It will most likely be 30 min to an hour. And if they say "I am coming!" that would mean, you are going to wait for a very long time......haha. So today was no different. The shelter coordinator said "2 minutes" and then we waited for almost an hour!!! Oh Nepali time! What a hoot.
In the afternoon, along with the Canada Tzu Chi Team, we went to visit a Lama up in the mountains. This is my first time up in the mountains, the air quality is sooooo much better than the lower valleys. After a long climb up the curvy dirt roads, we finally arrived at the beautiful temple!
Beautiful Temple up in the mountains.
We gave blankets to the Anis that lived there. SG was very thoughtful to have prepared a whole bunch of individual vaseline for them. Now they can have something to use for their dry skin.
Due to the earthquake, many Anis and little Lamas had no place to stay. So the main Lama of this temple took them all in out of the kindness of his heart and provides for them 100%. We were very happy that Tzu Chi can provide the multi-purpose beds for them. So now they won't have to sleep on the floor anymore.
We also gave candies to the little Lamas. They are so cute!
Got some new Khadas again! Thank you little Lamas!
The road conditions weren't all that great, so we all got out of the car and walked by foot to the mountain top orphanage.
After the small distribution ceremony, we all hiked up even higher into the National Park area to go visit an orphanage. The children of this orphanage, all 40 of them, have to walk 1 1/2 hours everyday to go to the school that is at the bottom of the hill. So back and forward that is 3 hours total of walking, just for school.
Their orphanage was destroyed in the earthquake and now what used to be their colorful walls have all turned into a giant pile of rubble on the side of the structure. The steel frames are still in place, but the walls have all collapsed. They were all very fortunate to have survived the earthquake. Just before the earthquake struck, they all went into the other room to watch TV, so none of them were hurt. Except for one little boy that was in the toilet. He was buried for about 15 min under the rubble, but was successfully dug out and saved with only minor injuries.
These children just arrived at the orphanage from an hour and a half walk from school!
All the distribution goods for the orphanage and little Lamas. The look on their faces were so precious! I think every child's eyes light up when they see candy, it doesn't matter what background you come from! So cute!
Inside the temple. It was so colorful with very intricate details!
The Multi-purpose bed can be both a bed and double-sided chairs, as well! What a wonderful invention! In 2014, the Jing Si Multi-purpose folding bed was selected as the winner of the Red Dot Award for best in quality and design.
Little Lama trying out the Multi-purpose bed with the eco-friendly blanket on top. He was so happy, rolling around it! He finally has a sturdy bed to call his own now! What a happy moment!
How many khadas you received already? I saw the tears in your eyes when you facing Lamas......
