Today is the big day!!!!!! It is big scaled distribution time!!!! I am officially in charge of the VIP section, which means I will be leading the PR team and making sure all the guests are doing well throughout the two distribution ceremonies. What an honor!!! We have many VIP guests coming today to participate in our distributions: Congressman of Kathamandu, Head of Health Department, All Hands volunteers, NCV volunteers, S.E.C. Nepal, Médecin Sans Frontier (Doctors Without Borders), Cadena Mexico, Operation Blessing, Lamas from various temples, and a couple of Entrepreneurs.
Monica and I are in charge of this tent camp, so we went super early to set up everything. We got to the tent site at around 6:30am and started to organize all the local Nepalese volunteers. The local volunteers were divided into four major groups with specific functions: ushers, crowd control, response team, and administration. We had a total about 100 local volunteers, because this was going to be a huge distribution today. We needed a lot of hands and legs to be there at all times to help out. Normally, distributing blankets is already a grand task, but today we have the multi-purpose beds, which weights about 15 kg. It is quite heavy on its own and many residents are getting two or three beds at a time. So we needed a lot of man power to help carry these beds.
The first distribution was from 9:00 to 11:00am and the second distribution was from 3:00 to 5:00pm. It was a huge success. Everyone's role was super important and we made so many great connections with people. During the ceremony we talked about the story of Tzu Chi and shared with the Nepalese people the idea of the Bamboo Bank. The spirit of giving and great love all around the world. How we want to be someone who's palms are facing down, not someone who's palms are facing up, because that is the gesture of a beggar. We want to be able to give love and care to others in need. We also shared the idea of how there's no one in this world that I do not trust, love, or forgive. It is all in that one moment, that one thought where we can walk the positive path in life.
I was very happy and touched that all the VIP guests that came became one of our volunteers on-site. They helped us distribute the blankets and also carried the 15kg multi-purpose beds. Today's distributions were a giant success due to every single person involved. I am so grateful that I get to be a part of this great love cycle of giving. Today we managed to distribute 2028 blankets and 1948 beds to a total of 895 families at the Chu Che Pati Camp. How amazing is that????
My good friends from Cadena Mexico and Operation Blessing!
