Um....can we say YUMMY???!!!???
This magazine was in the reception desk area and it turns out the person on the cover, named "Karma", is the hotel owner's son. The father, Mahendra, was the one that gave his son this name to use in the entertainment business, because he feels this word is all about what the person does and he wishes the best in everything his son does. Karma is one of the known actors in Nepal and in conversation with the owner, we found out a giant plot twist. It turns out that the latest film Karma starred in was called "Resham Filili," which is a nepali comedy movie directed by Pranab Joshi. The movie was highly anticipated after the release of the title song "Jaalma" in YouTube, that was a giant hit. So the movie was released on April 24th, 2015, which just so happens to be the day before the 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal. The earthquake had a huge impact on the earnings and screenings of the film, so due to that factor, the film is now all set to re-release on August 28 (Bhadra 11) nationwide. So this whole conversation all started because we were talking about the meaning behind the song "Resham Firiri" and he was kind enough to explain it to us. So the film is a parody idea off of the original folk song title. It was such an interesting conversation and storyline. So we have now officially established a time each day to have "Mahendra's Story Corner" just for the owner to tell us different stories. How awesome is that?
Today, I officially became the warehouse and relief goods coordinator. We went to Gomang Carpet to retrieve some relief goods for a partnering organization. The organization will be heading to a couple different remote villages outside of the Kathmandou area, so we will be providing the relief goods, while they physically go deliver the goods. It is a partnership that works out really well for everyone involved. So the agenda today: 105 bags of rice (30kg), dal (lentils 3kg), sugar (2kg), oil (1L) and hygiene packs.
It ended up being super labor intensive, but we made it till the end! Everyone who was around jumped in to help, since the bags of rice (30kg) really gets tiring after only a few trips. It wasn't just the heavy weight that was getting to us, but mostly the blazing hot sun! Good job guys!
The truck pulling into the second warehouse area - the containers.
Finished result: Tents, Blankets, Food Items, and Hygiene Packs.
Great job everyone! We did it!
On the way back home, many roads were closed and a whole brigade of army soldiers could be seen up on their horses. They were all decked out in their special occasion uniforms, because it turns out the president was making a tour around the area. It was really something!!!
After all this physical labor, it was time to sit down and eat some good food! There is a restaurant just across the street from the hotel and they serve awesome food. We ordered Veggie Parathas today and it was soooooooo good! Completely hit the spot! Paratha is a flatbread that is from the Indian Subcontinent. The word literally means "layers of cooked dough." They are usually stuffed with boiled potatoes (aloo ka paratha), leaf vegetables, radishes, cauliflower, and/or paneer (Cottage-Cheese). A paratha can be eaten simply with a butter spread, chutney, pickles, ketchup, and yogurt, or with meat or vegetable curries. Some people will even roll the paratha into a tube and dip it with tea. The paratha can be round, heptagonal, square, or triangular in shape.
What a great meal!!!! I love Nepali food! More please!!!!
